The cost was another story. I had no water so I needed to have it fixed and did not want to have numerous estimates as it would take more time. He did gave me an estimate before he started that was about the same as his final bill, but I really had not choice but to accept it as I had no water.
When an older plastic snake broke off in our bathtub drain, it greatly slowed the drain during showers. Allgood plumbing gave us a price of over $600, and their solution required digging into the foundation, which would probably have created even more problems. Joe Mabrey provided a simple solution by going through the overflow drain and retrieving the obstruction with a corkscrew metal rod made on site. His creative solution saved us money and the unnecessary hassle of digging into concrete. His knowledge and experience made all the difference! We've known the Mabreys for over 25 years and highly recommend Joe if want a plumbing job done right.
Was charged $1299 to drain the septic tank in addition to the $395 to locate the tank ( "And I'll take payment for that now..."!!!!) All the while charging an additional 7% on card. Which he takes into his van and uses a 3% card swiper connected to his phone.
I did not pay by credit card but you should know if you do there is a fee.
Had a pipe break just as it entered the house so he had to replace a piece that went through the wall. He could not or would not use the original pressure reducer and shut off valve... I did not argue as I had no way of knowing if this was avoidable. I had the pipes all exposed and had dug up the ground to allow him adequate space to work.
I was also told upfront that at some point I would have to do additional work but it did not need to be done at this time. He knew his trade and was upfront with all costs. It was a very good experience.
Charged me $400 to "locate" the septic tank. All in all paid twice what it should have cost to have the septic tank drained.
I needed an inspection done on my septic tank. They were out to look at the property with 4 hours to give me an estimate. They returned the next morning to pump the septic and do the inspection. Upon inspection it was determined there were some issues that needed to repaired and shown where the repair work was needed. I was given an estimate and the work was done the next morning. He was able to do the work without digging up my sidewalk where the first business I called said they would have to rip up the sidewalk to pump the tank.
Just be aware of the potential cost and if at all possible get several estimates. Also ask what the hourly rates are prior to agreeing to the first visit.
But the overall bill for about 2 hours and 45 minutes was $828. He said it included about $300 in parts, but still... ~$170 per hour???!!! I know plumbers typically charge a higher rate for the first hour as it includes driving time, but I spent several hours each day going to and from work and was not paid extra for that...
I've used this company in the past. great company. They are honest and dependable very respectful. Reasonable price for the quality of work done. Thanks
When he comes out he will assess your house to figure out how much he could get away with charging you.
The overall experience with him was fine. He allowed me to change the appointment time, he was well dressed, he communicated well, he performed the tasks well and all of his work was done in a professional manner.
Addendum:
Conclusion and lesson: Make sure you say "Before any work is performed I want a quote first".
